The Godzilla Minus Zero card game crossover will stomp onto tables in December 2026, shortly after Takashi Yamazaki’s new film opens in North America. Booster Set #5 will bring the director’s latest version of the King of the Monsters into the Godzilla Card Game, complete with a particularly tempting collector prize: randomly inserted, extremely rare hot-stamped Yamazaki autograph cards.

The release is more than a stray piece of movie merchandise. Toho and Bushiroad have arranged a compact kaiju campaign around the film’s November 6 opening, starting with three new decks on the same date and following with the dedicated booster the next month. Godzilla is not changing cinematic genres, exactly. He is simply expanding his territory, which now includes theaters, tournament tables and probably several very organized binders.

How the card release connects to the movie

Godzilla Minus Zero opens in North America on November 6, 2026. Yamazaki returns as writer and director after Godzilla Minus One, the acclaimed postwar drama that gave the franchise a newly frightening incarnation of its radioactive star.

Yamazaki has offered a suitably grim preview of the sequel, saying that “an even deeper despair will descend upon Japan and the Shikishima family.” The film has a reported runtime of 135 minutes, with Ryunosuke Kamiki returning as Kōichi Shikishima and Minami Hamabe as Noriko Ōishi. Min Tanaka and Hidetaka Yoshioka are also listed among the returning cast.

That same day, the card game will release three “Battle Begins!” starter decks built around:

  • Godzilla
  • Destoroyah
  • King Ghidorah

The timing matters. Earlier reporting suggested those decks would arrive alongside the December booster, but Bushiroad’s schedule places them on November 6, directly matching the movie’s North American launch. Booster Set #5 then follows in December, extending the promotional window through the holiday season.

An exact booster release date has not been announced. The price, total card count and complete rarity breakdown also remain under wraps. For now, the confirmed attractions are the Minus Zero theme and the rare Yamazaki autograph inserts.

Why Minus Zero already fits the tabletop game

This is not Yamazaki’s first meeting with the trading-card crowd. When the Japanese and English editions of the Godzilla Card Game launched simultaneously on July 5, 2025, a Godzilla Minus One starter deck was part of the opening lineup. The debut also included a second starter deck and the first booster, Godzilla vs. Godzilla.

A combined two-deck product featuring Minus One and the Heisei film series followed in February 2026. Booster Set #5 will therefore expand an existing tabletop interpretation of Yamazaki’s corner of the franchise rather than introducing it from scratch.

The wider game has been designed to mix eras freely. The G: Monsters Raid Again booster drew material from titles including Shin Godzilla, Godzilla Minus One, Godzilla: Final Wars and Godzilla vs. Biollante. That cross-generational approach lets newer screen versions share deck space with monsters and imagery pulled from decades of Toho history.

Toho publishes the game, Bushiroad manages sales and YUHODO handles development. Players construct color-based decks using four categories of cards:

  • Monster
  • Battle
  • Strategy
  • Rage

Matches revolve around attacking, defending and advancing monsters into enemy territory, with two possible victory conditions. It turns city-leveling spectacle into tactical competition, with fewer collapsing buildings and considerably more sleeve protection.

A balance change arrives before the new cards

The new products are entering a game that Bushiroad is still actively tuning. In September 2026, the company restricted the competitively influential Godzilla (2003) card and announced replacement-card distribution ahead of the incoming decks and booster.

Bushiroad said it would “continue to prioritize creating a healthy gameplay environment.” That language points to ongoing competitive maintenance, but no public sales totals, player counts or tournament-attendance figures have been released. Claims that the game already has a large or thriving audience therefore go beyond the available numbers.

What can be confirmed is continued organized support. Shop tournaments, promotional cards, restriction updates and larger events have carried the game beyond its first year. Qualifiers for the second Japanese national championship are scheduled to begin in January 2027, placing the Minus Zero set directly into the competitive calendar.

That creates an interesting sequence for players. An established card is being limited, replacement copies are being distributed, three accessible decks arrive in November, and a film-themed booster follows in December. The game’s competitive environment could look noticeably different by the time national qualifiers begin.

What collectors still need to know

The Yamazaki card is currently the headline collectible, but several practical details remain unanswered. Bushiroad and the official game site have not revealed pull rates, the number of autograph variants or whether other premium treatments will appear in the set.

The full character lineup is another mystery. Given the booster’s focus, cards based on Godzilla Minus Zero are guaranteed, but the publishers have not disclosed how much of the set will feature the new movie or whether older films will share the checklist.

That secrecy leaves fans with a clear date window but not yet a shopping plan. December 2026 is confirmed, while the precise day and price are still pending. Anyone hoping to build a deck around Yamazaki’s latest monster will need to wait for the complete card reveal.

Still, the strategy is easy to see. Godzilla Minus One helped establish the game at launch, and its sequel now gets a premium booster soon after reaching theaters. The franchise has spent more than 70 years moving through film, television, comics, games and collectibles. A trading-card takeover is less a dramatic reinvention than Godzilla finding one more place to leave an enormous footprint.
